I know I can never be perfect.
I know I can never win.
I know that.
I do.
But why do I always try so hard?
To strive to perfection, that's all I want.
Why can't I just be normal?
Why can't I be like everyone else?
Who laugh.
Who cry.
No.
That's all the same.
Laughing and crying are all the same things.
I can't be perfect.
I know that now.
I will be perfectly imperfect.

I hate perfectionists - they're all ego balloons. They've got no substance in them once they lose their spunk.

I don't think you understand how they work. They have their reasons. Sometimes to live up to expectations of people, because they believe that if they don't succeed they can't do anything right, etc..

I don't think you have a right to hate a very bad complex.

Yes, I don't have the right to hate such a neurosis, BUT I have the right to state why I do not hold them in same regard: IF, because of this bias, I am held responsible for their disorientation in their task (which invariably happens - they're a precarious lot, what with their mental faculty so helplessly perched on the brink) then I will have to carry their guilt.

For all my bias towards it, the weight of a perfectionist is an unbearable torture - you either have to be a titan or you have to be dead inside, to bear their burden.

... And yes, if I am speaking to a perfectionist, don't take this rant in any way to mean I don't like you or have a grudge against you: one of my really really amazing childhood friends, *NotenSMSK, is a perfectionist. And he has this complex. Its because of the time we've spent together that I'm ambivalent towards this phenomenon.

Then please do not say you hate people with these sad complexes. I have no problem with you not you not wanting to have to deal with that 'guilt'.

Perfectionist are, -believe it or not, people who frankly just can't take the fact of failure to a point where they would commit suicide. They are actually quite sensitive beings and only want to fulfill the consuming burden within them.

Yes, I am a perfectionist. For two reasons, I feel I can't be smart if I can't surpass failure, and I only wish to make my Mother proud.

Alright, I'll keep that in mind.

... The First reason is in itself, debatable; but the second, I tip my hat to you, sir.

Because the second defines the first, for a lot of reasons - the primary being that she's your mom. Anyone's mom deserves that... warmth of pride over their child's achievements. And I'm just going to run with the presumption that she's happy that your around, even if you can be a stubborn person at times (and you as a perfectionist will admit that you tend to be that way).
